Lewis runs for readers!

KIND-HEARTED Lewis Smith stepped up to the challenge of the Great North Run last weekend helping raise funds for Netherfield Primary School’s new library in the process.

Nine-year-old Lewis took part in the famous run earlier to help buy books for his school’s new library. With help from mum Chloe, who works at the school, he managed to raise £500 towards new books after running the four kilometre junior run.

Netherfield Primary School pupil Lewis, who is in Year 5, has taken part in the Great North Run since the age of three, but this was his first year running the longer junior race.

He was really excited to have been taking part, particularly after last year’s event was cancelled due to Covid. In previous years he and his mum have supported various cancer charities, along with Greenpeace and the RNLI but felt this year fundraising should be for his own school where the pandemic has prevented usual fundraising activities from taking place.

Said Lewis: “I really enjoyed the junior run and I’m looking forward to being able to run again next year.”
